Yahoo Search Shares Increase as Google Slips

by mobaobao on February 19, 2009

A recent ComScore study shows an increase in Yahoo Search market share of .5% in January 2009 over December 2008, giving Yahoo a market share of US based searches of about 21%.

Google on the other hand, showed a slight decrease in market share over the same period, losing the same 0.5% that Yahoo gained, closing January 2009 with a 63% share of US searches.

I really do not think that this is that much of a significant change to declare that Google has hit its peak in market share, it may show however that Yahoo’s new testing of its search heavy homepage and further integration of search results into the Yahoo Network and via Yahoo Buzz may have some influence on its search usage. Interestingly enough, despite its rise in Yahoo searches, the comScore data shows a drop in search query usage by Yahoo partners.

More from comScore :

Americans conducted 13.5 billion searches at the core search engines, up 7 percent from December. Google Sites handled 8.5 billion core searches, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 2.8 billion and Microsoft Sites with 1.1 billion.
